Policy

The Tropical Rain Forest Information Center (TRFIC) provides users with easy access to Landsat and SAR data. We aim to serve a diverse community of users and encourage users to direct others to the TRFIC archive, allowing them access to affordable Landsat data as well as an opportunity to take advantage of our services and technical and scientific expertise.

Policy for use of TRFIC products

  • Data from this archive are provided on a non-discriminatory basis to be used primarily for scientific research, educational and other non profit applications or for illustration in publications (see TRFIC Data Images for Use in Publication for guidelines.)
  • Users of TRFIC Landsat data will NOT duplicate TRFIC data for the purpose of resale
  • We request that when TRFIC users share their acquisitions with others they seek prior permission from TRFIC User Services. The user should provide a brief description of the intended use of the data and the contact information of the "new" user. This information will be used to track our data information systems and services metrics, and hopefully, will allow us to serve the community more efficiently and effectively.
  • We request all users provide TRFIC with regular reports on how the data has been used, any publications which result, signficant applications or other such outcomes. This helps us tabulate metrics for our funding agencies as well as make improvements to our system.
  • We request users with web sites to allow us to link TRFIC to it.

TRFIC Graphic Images for Use in Publication

TRFIC data images may appear in publication with credit using the following citation:

If you would like to order an image for use in publication please take a few minutes to complete this form.

NOTE: We can create images from the data as JPG or TIFF files for use as illustrations. Please use this form to order JPG or TIFF images of particular Landsat scenes if you wish to use the data strictly for illustrative purposes, rather than ordering a full Landsat image.

The cost of a single Landsat, MSS, or TM scene in JPG or TIFF format is US$25.00 per image. ETM+ scenes are provided at $50.00 each. Custom orders that involve mosiacked images will cost US$35.00 per image. Shipping costs are the same for JPG/TIFF format as for full Landsat data. There is no shipping cost to receive the data via ftp.

All Landsat images in JPG or TIFF format are full resolution products.

Ordering Data

Pricing:
Each Landsat MSS and TM scene from the TRFIC archive is US$25.00. Each ETM+ scene is $50.00. The fee covers the reproduction and standard mailing costs for the data ordered by users.

Additional charges may be applied to orders sent via express mail service. There is no charge for orders shipped US Postal Service first class. All orders will be shipped USPS first class unless otherwise indicated on the order form.

Shipping Options include:

  • U.S. Postal Service First Class Domestic destination: No charge
  • U.S. Postal Service First Class Airmail International: No charge
  • FedEx for US orders: US$10.00 for orders up to ten scenes. An additional US$2.00 per scene for every scene over ten.
  • DHL or UPS for International orders: US$20.00 for orders up to five scenes. An additional US$3.00 per scene for every scene over five.

    Payments:

Payment for orders less than US$2500.00 is due upon receipt of the data. We require that users pay in advance for orders over US$2500.00. Payments may be made by check or money order in US dollars. Please make checks payable to:

Re-orders or Replacements:
