The Amazonian Chelonious Project removed the Amazonian turtle -- the largest
species of fresh water chelonious in South America - from the endangered species
list, in spite of the complete lack of funding and the Brazilian environmental
policies. Nurseries like that are used as the babies' temporary home, where
they will only leave in 5 to 30 days, when their shells are hardened and their
fish smell -- strong attraction of predators -- has
vanished.
